EXECUTIVE SITUATION 01 · LEADERSHIP

Too little space to think

When being the one who fixes everything becomes part of the problem.

An executive faces increasing demands, constant pressure and little time to step back. Instead of questioning what needs to change, they take on more, solve immediate problems and keep things moving.

Over time, a pattern develops: the organization increasingly relies on the executive to step in, while the executive has even less time to rethink responsibilities, decisions and ways of working. What initially helped the organization perform may now be limiting its effectiveness.

How ON SILK approaches it

Rather than focusing only on the executive’s ability to manage pressure, I look at the patterns that sustain it across the organization. Through conversations with the executive and relevant stakeholders, I identify how expectations, responsibilities and established behaviors reinforce one another. Together with the sponsor, I consider options for changing these patterns. The sponsor decides which approach to pursue. Implementation may involve executive coaching, facilitated conversations, team coaching or changes to organizational processes and decision-making — depending on where intervention can make the greatest difference.
